Friday Reads 1/17/2014

This Friday  This weekend, i will be finishing up Just One Day By Gale Forman. I started two days ago and am almost done. I feel like this is a required read for everyone and this is my first Gayle Forman book, so that's saying a lot.

Next up is Ready Player One By Ernest Cline. I just now found this after looking for it forever at the library, and I'm pretty sure I'll pick this up after Just One Day.

Last, but not least is This Song Will Save Your Life By Leila Sales. I don't know much about this book. I've seen it on my Amazon Recommendations and around BookTube a lot and just decided to get it. I think I'll enjoy it though.

      First off, I love anything written by Jennifer, so I knew that this was going to be amazing and I was right!!! Wait for You is college/adult book which is genre we'll be seeing a lot this year. This book is amazing. I was hooked from the first page. When I first bought it, I had no idea this it was an adult book, but kept reading because the story was intriguing. There were, of course, some sexy scenes, but Jennifer focused more on the story instead of sex.  Avery, the main character, moved to West Virginia to escape her past in Texas, but eventually and obviously, it comes back to haunt her. Becasuse of what happened to her in Texas, being around guys makes her jumpy and she kind of thinks that they all have some sort of hidden agenda. On her first day, she runs into Cameron, who prefers to be called Cam. He is just.....the most perfect  book boyfriend of all time. I mean he bakes. What more can you ask for in a guy??? Seriously? He's kind of an reformed player who also has a dark past.

     Cameron and Avery are so cute. Their back and forth banter is adorable and made me smile. I was reading this in the front office at school and someone had said something in the book and I remember smiling from ear to ear. The people in the office probably thought that i was weird.  Anyway, not wanting to spoil the rest of the book, I give this 5 out of 5 stars. It's amazing. Also, if you want to read from Cameron's perspective, read Trust In Me. It's book 1.5 of the Wait for You Series which is more like a companion novel series, like Anna and the French Kiss.  The next two books are Be With Me told from Cameron's sister, Teresa's POV. The last one is Stay With Me, told from Avery's best friend, Brittney's POV. Both are released this year. 

The Infernal Devices TV Show

        I saw this picture on Instagram and wasn't happy. If most of y'all haven't noticed, the majority of book to TV adaptions, are wayyyyy off. Some examples would be Game of Thrones, True Blood, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, The Lying Game, and more. With all of these shows, they are so far off book, that there is absolutely no need to read the books, which, to be honest, ticks me off. If producers and TV show creators are going to make a book to a TV show, they should at least have the deceny to stay by the book. People tend to get lazy and not read the book. They're all like, "There's no need to read the book. I'll just watch the show." Ummmm..... Yeah. You do need to read book. Everything will make a lot more sense. The Infernal Devices is perfect as it is. There's absolutely no need to try and make it a TV show, because the producers are going to mess it all up. It may sound harsh, but its true. They just need to leave it alone.

Best Contemporary 

Anna and the French Kiss By Stephanie Perkins

 I will forever love this book. I admit, I read this last year, but I reread it during the Christmas BookTubeAThon to get out a reading slump and it totally worked. As cheesy as the synopsis may be, it’s a great book that everyone should read.

Grave Mercy By Robin LaFevers

I had been eying this book ever since I saw an ad for in Seventeen. When it finally became available at my library, I couldn’t put it down. Sure it’s a bit long, but this is definitely worth reading.

It took me a while to get used to Sydney, because I kept expecting her to be like Rose because I was used to Rose being a badass. But Sydney isn't Rose and I'm okay with that. Every book gets better and better. I haven't read the newest book yet, so no spoilers! 

Best Underrated Series

Poison Study By Maria V. Snyder

Do not hesitate!!! Check this series out now! Or buy it. Whatever floats your boat. You will not be disappointed. 

Best End to Series

Clockwork Princess By Cassandra Clare 

This book is number one on my favorites list. It answered all questions and left me satisfied. 

Best Hybrid

What's Left of Me By Kat Zhang 

I've never read anything like this before. It was just so interesting. I couldn't put it down. I haven't read the second one yet. No spoilers!!! 

 

Best Sequel 

The Evolution of Mara Dyer By Michelle Hodkin

Love. Love. Love It!!! Absolutely loved it. The only problem was that it needed to be longer in my opinion so it wouldn't have ended so quickly.

My Life Next Door By Huntley Fitzpatrick 
This book.......This is the perfect summer read. It was perfect. When Sam and Jace fell in love, it wasn't immediate, which is great.  5 out of 5 stars!! Great job Huntley!!!

     Okay….So…This is my review/discussion on Allegiant By Veronica Roth. Obviously, if you haven’t read the whole trilogy, go and read it because I’m about to spoil a whole lot and go on a long rant. Just a warning.

     While reading this, I found out that it was a terrible idea to go on Tumblr, Twitter, and YouTube. People were expressing their opinions and posting their reviews and no one was happy. I kept hearing things about the ending and that people were crying. Curious, I started speed reading. I finally reached the end excited to see what all of the hype was about. I was expecting something truly epic, but that didn't happen. Instead, Tris died and I felt nothing. Totally numb. For about a day until it all started to hit me. It got to the point that every time I thought about it, I wanted to bawl my eyes out. There were too many feels. I felt confused, angry, frustrated, and speechless. 

     To be honest, I thought that the book was boring. Just 526 pages of nonsense just so that the book ended in Tris's death. I'm going to start at the beginning: Tris and Four's POV. I didn't like Four's POV because it was boring and half the time I wouldn't  even know that it was Four until he started complaining about Marcus and Evelyn. 

 And all of that crap about the GP and GD was just so annoying and felt like it had been done in every other cheesy sci-fi movie. When Four fund out that he wasn't Divergent, he started acting like a baby. Okay Four, so you're not Divergent, big deal. You still have Divergent like qualities, that's still pretty cool. (I'm talking to a character, who can't talk back to me. Yeah, I'm sane.) 

     I'm going to end this review right here because if I go on, there will be no stopping me from going on a full rant. I give this book 3 out of 5 stars. I was and still am, disappointed in it. There are good ways and bad ways to end series/trilogy's and this was a bad way. Another example is Requiem by Lauren Oliver. Let me know what you thought and I'll talk to y'all later.

Not really reading a lot this weekend. Just three books. First is Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout, the third book in her Covenant Series. Next is Elixir, also by Jennifer, but this a novella which is different for me because I don't really read novellas of anything. And last but not least is Tithe by Holly Black. One of my best friends is forcing me to read this because she wants me to have a better understanding of faeries since we're both writing a book that has faeries in it. So, that's it for my Friday Reads. Hopefully my Allegiant will be up on either Monday or Tuesday. Hope all of y'all have a great and safe weekend!!! I'll talk to y'all later.

NaNoWriMo Update #2

      Sorry for the lack of videos. My camera is acting up. I  recorded 4 or 5 videos yesterday, but none of them actually saved. It's official: technology hates me!!!

     So, for NaNoWriMo, instead of worrying about word count, me and my best friend was focusing on how both of our stories connect. The way we do things is that we both write a chapter and after we talk about it and combine in the best way possible. Right now, I'm just now starting to write. She's been writing A LOT. Before we started writing together, she had written about 10 pages of her book (which she now decided is going to be a novella) and I had written an introduction, Chapter 1(James Patterson style) and had just started my Chapter 2. What I was writing didn't fit what WE were going to write, so I immediately scraped it. And that's fine because sometimes, you have to make sacrifices.  

     The thing is, we both have COMPLETELY different writing styles. She is a lot more detailed than I am. I used to be detailed, like the kind of detailed that people hate, so I kind of became a minimalist. Kind of. But we're both working on that. So I guess my #1 tip would to be try not to worry about the word count. Quality is way more important if you ask me. You can worry about word count another day.
